GRID/NEA Partners - Current & Past

CURRENT: Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)

CIDA supports some of the poorest developing/transitional countries in the world - countries attempting to create their own self-sustaining economies and governance. Understanding the complexity and commitment required, CIDA works closely with its partners to ensure the highest degree of success is achieved. Fundamental to CIDA is the vision of reducing world poverty and contributing to an equitable, prosperous and safe world.

CIDA’s affiliation with GRID began in 1988 when an application for funding of the first phase of the “Janga Project” was approved by CIDA’s newly-formed division, “Partnership Africa Canada “ (PAC) .GRID has presented several three year proposals to CIDA since that time, all of which have received matched funding from PAC and more recently through the CIDA - NGO Division. Several visitors from CIDA offices travelled to the Janga project during the time funding was being received. GRID reports semi-annually to CIDA on the results of the activities undertaken by NEA and the partnering communities. CIDA’s financial support to GRID is not applied to any aspect of religious endorsement or activities. In 2007, GRID received funding through CIDA’s Voluntary Sector Fund for the next two years. Special to this donations towards this approved proposal are matched 3:1 (for every $ Canadians send to GRID, CIDA gives $3). This proposal focuses on:

  • Improving Health Outcomes (food security & health sector activities)
  • Advancing Environmental Sustainability (protecting the Black Volta & water & sanitation activities)
  • Promoting Good Governance (Chiefs meetings, construction of a training centre)
  • Strengthening Basic Education (school construction, scholarships).
  • CURRENT: The Makbraneth Foundation of Canada

In 2002, NEA began a partnership with the Makbraneth Foundation of Canada, a Christian organization dedicated to promoting the message of Christ and to alleviate poverty. From 2002 to 2007, NEA has implemented 36 projects in 8 districts in Ghana through The Makbraneth Foundation’s support.

    PAST: The Sharing Way (1994-2006)

The Sharing Way is the relief and development division within the Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) organization. TSW supports long-term development programs, understanding that long-term development support makes the most meaningful difference on the lives of those on whom it is focused.

The partnership between GRID and The Sharing Way developed from an expressed interest that TSW had about the work of the NEA in Ghana. At the time, Dr. David Mensah was a contributor to TSW‘s consultation for establishing their policy on the environment. The Canadian Director of TSW was a member of the GRID board. The Sharing Way has partnered with GRID in fund-raising and development education in Canada since 1994. TSW remains instrumental in continuing to increase the public’s awareness of the conditions and needs facing the people of Ghana’s northern country, as well as the efforts of CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) and their commitment to helping solve some of the problems facing the developing world. The Sharing Way co-ordinates information valuable to NEA in Ghana.
