GRID/NEA Volunteers

Since our beginning NEA has welcomed individuals and teams of volunteers from around the globe. Some journey to Ghana while completing their educational field studies. Others arrive via organizations or churches responding to the public speaking engagements conducted by the Ghana Rural Integrated Development (GRID) organization and The Sharing Way (TSW) organization. Some quietly work behind the scenes, helping to co-ordinate periodic material/equipment shipments from North America to Ghana.

Our volunteers to Ghana are pretty special to us. They willingly labor alongside those in Ghana who are attempting to create a sustainable development model for themselves and future generations. They leave their comfort zones to experience firsthand the realities that face Ghanaians. Hard work, long days and limited comforts are experienced firsthand, but the reward is knowing that they are working towards alleviating the hardships experienced by others. Friendships stem from these endeavors. Friendships that transcend cultural differences, language barriers and social status.

Equally important and special are those volunteers who never set foot on Ghanaian soil. Their role, although less visible, remains just as important. From their personal conversations to raise awareness to individual fund-raising events, their efforts are truly heartfelt. Since our beginning, NEA has had more than 100 students involved in hands-on development programs. This involvement and exposure has had a marked impact on their lives and values. Many have chosen careers that show their commitment to poverty alleviation. One such student applied to medical school after leaving Ghana. While there, he organized a team of medical students to come and work with a rural clinic. Professionals and lay persons alike have contributed countless hours on the scene or behind the scenes to making this common dream a reality. When the challenges facing GRID and the NEA have been placed before us, God has stirred the hearts of volunteers the world over. For that we at GRID and NEA sincerely say “Thank you”
